Works by Anselm Feuerbach (1829-1880), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in Speyer and died in Venice, Feuerbach looked to Antiquity and the Italian Renaissance for an ideal of grandeur and calm: Plato's Symposium, his great painting in Karlsruhe, Medea, Iphigenia, and scenes taken from Dante and Ariosto. His model Anna Risi, known as Nanna, whom he painted more than twenty times, returns in his portraits of Roman women. Shown here are his oil paintings, his self-portraits and his flowers; his drawings are not included on this page. The photograph comes from the museum itself or from another free source, given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
