Works by Auguste Couder (1789-1873), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in London, a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and Jacques-Louis David, he made his debut at the Salon of 1814 with The Death of General Moreau, entered the Académie des beaux-arts in 1839 and painted for Louis-Philippe several large pictures for the historical museum at Versailles, among them the Siege of Yorktown. Only works that the museums give to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included. For the works at Versailles and Rennes, which have no stable address on the museum's website, the link leads to their record in the official database of the French Ministry of Culture (POP). The Hermitage painting is a reduced replica of the Salon picture of 1817, by Couder's own hand. The two ceilings of the Louvre are photographed in place, in the Rotonde d'Apollon. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
