Works by Auguste Leroux (1871-1954), in the public domain, each linked to its record at the institution that holds it. A pupil of Léon Bonnat, winner of the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1894 and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Leroux was a history painter, a painter of Parisian life and a book illustrator: for the publisher Ferroud he designed the compositions for Huysmans's À rebours (1920), etched by Eugène Decisy. These plates, shown here first, among them the tortoise encrusted with gems, bear the inscriptions “Aug. Leroux pinx.” and “E. Decisy sc.”: the composition is Leroux's, the engraving Decisy's. Six of them are pages of the copy held by the University of Ottawa library and scanned on the Internet Archive; the seventh is in the Rijksmuseum. They are followed by the paintings and drawings that the museums of Paris have put online (The Two Heads, after Victor Hugo's La Légende des siècles, the Pont Alexandre III, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Butte-aux-Cailles swimming pool) and two posters for the national loans of 1917 and 1918. The titles are those of the holders, with their translation.
