Works by Charles Meynier (1763-1832), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. A pupil of François-André Vincent and winner of the Prix de Rome, he painted the great scenes of Napoleon's campaigns, among them the Emperor's Return to the Island of Lobau after the Battle of Essling and his Entry into Berlin, then, under the Restoration, several ceilings of the Louvre, still in place. The five canvases of the Muses, painted for a single decoration and held in Cleveland, are shown one by one. Only works that the museums give to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included; the Louvre ceilings are shown from photographs taken in the galleries. For the works at the Palace of Versailles and in museums that have no stable address for each work, the link leads to their record in the official database of the French Ministry of Culture (POP). The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
