Works by Charles-Philippe Larivière (1798-1876), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. A pupil of Paulin Guérin, Girodet and Gros, he won the Prix de Rome in 1824 with The Death of Alcibiades, specialised in history painting and received major public commissions. For the Museum of the History of France that Louis-Philippe created at the Palace of Versailles, he painted battles and sieges from the Middle Ages to Louis XIV, the scenes of the Crusades Rooms (Ascalon, Malta) and, into the Second Empire, full-length portraits of marshals and admirals of France. Only works that the museums give to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included. For the works at Versailles, which have no stable address on the palace's website, the link leads to their record in the official database of the French Ministry of Culture (POP). The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
