Works by Edwin Austin Abbey (1852-1911), in the public domain, each linked to the page of the institution that holds it. Born in Philadelphia and living in England from 1878, Abbey began as an illustrator before painting large decorative schemes: the Quest and Achievement of the Holy Grail (1890-1901), commissioned for the Boston Public Library, where the panels remain in place, and Shakespearean scenes such as King Lear. For the Boston panels, the link is the library's official page, which mentions these murals, and the photographs are the library's own, under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. Only works that the institutions attribute to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included. Sketches, study sheets and black-and-white drawings are not shown. The titles of the panels are those of the reproductions published by the Library of Congress, with their translation.
