Works by Elizabeth Thompson, Lady Butler (1846-1933), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in Lausanne and trained in London, Florence and Rome, she became famous in 1874 with The Roll Call, bought by Queen Victoria. She painted war from the side of the ordinary soldier, from Waterloo to the First World War, using soldiers and horses as models. Only works that the museums give to her without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph of at least 900 pixels exists, are included: many of her paintings, held in regimental museums or private hands, or photographed only at small size, are not here yet. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
