Émile van Marcke (1827-1890) was a French painter and printmaker, born in Sèvres and died in Hyères. He began as a porcelain painter, then became a pupil of Constant Troyon and devoted himself to animals and country landscapes, above all to cows in the meadow. A Knight of the Legion of Honour, he is represented at the Rijksmuseum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Other paintings by him are held in Buenos Aires, Reims and The Hague.
