Works by Eugène Carrière (1849-1906), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in Gournay-sur-Marne and died in Paris, Carrière painted almost in a single range of browns and greys, with figures emerging from a dark haze: mothers embracing their children (Intimacy, The Sleep), pensive faces (Two Women, Madame Case), children in costume or in a white dress (Little d'Artagnan, The First Communion), and portraits of his friends from the avant-garde, which he also took up in lithography (Paul Verlaine, Auguste Rodin, Puvis de Chavannes, Alphonse Daudet). Only works that the museums attribute to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: CC0 files from open-data museums, public-domain photographs or photographs under a free licence from Wikimedia Commons, whose origin is given on the page of each work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
