Eugène Isabey (1803-1886) was a French painter, the son of the miniaturist Jean-Baptiste Isabey. He is best known for his seascapes, beaches and harbours of Normandy, painted with a lively touch and changing light, as well as for his historical and ceremonial scenes in period costume. He was a friend of Eugène Delacroix and Richard Parkes Bonington, with whom he painted marine scenes on both sides of the English Channel in the 1820s.
