Works by Jules-Eugène Lenepveu (1819-1898), in the public domain, each linked to the record of the museum that holds it or, for the painted cycle in the Panthéon, to the record of the French Ministry of Culture (POP database). Born in Angers, he won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1847 with The Death of Vitellius, entered the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1869 and directed the Académie de France in Rome from 1873 to 1878. A painter of large decorative schemes, he made the ceiling of the Paris Opéra, the paintings of the Daru staircase at the Louvre and, from 1886 to 1890, the Life of Joan of Arc in the Panthéon, including the scene of the siege of Orléans. Many of his decorations, still in place in churches, hospitals and palaces, are not here yet, for lack of a large enough freely reusable photograph or of a record from their holder. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
