Federico de Madrazo (1815-1894) was a Spanish painter, born in Rome and died in Madrid, the son of the painter José de Madrazo and one of the leading figures of nineteenth-century Spanish painting. Trained by his father, then in Paris and Rome, he became the portraitist of the court and the aristocracy, while also painting history scenes and religious subjects. He directed the Prado Museum in Madrid.
