Works by Giovanni Boldini (1842-1931), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in Ferrara and trained in Florence, where he moved among the Macchiaioli painters, Boldini settled in Paris in 1871: there he first painted small street and drawing-room scenes sold by the Goupil firm, then, from the 1880s, the society portraits with their rapid, nervous brushwork that made his name, from Robert de Montesquiou to Consuelo Vanderbilt. Only works that the museums attribute to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: CC0 files from open-data museums and public-domain photographs from Wikimedia Commons, whose origin is given on the page of each work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
