Ivan Grohar (1867-1911) was a Slovene painter, one of the four leading Slovene Impressionists with Rihard Jakopič, Matej Sternen and Matija Jama. He is best known for his landscapes of Slovenia, painted in broken, luminous touches, and for The Sower (1907), which the public at once held to be the most important painting of the Slovene nation. He also painted portraits, and he died in Ljubljana at the age of forty-three.
