Works by Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant (1845-1902), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it or, for the museum of Narbonne, which has no record for each work online, to its entry in the public catalogue of the French Ministry of Culture (POP). Raised in Toulouse and a pupil of Cabanel, Benjamin-Constant brought back from his stay in Morocco, in 1871-1872, the subjects that made his name at the Salon: the Entry of Mehmed II into Constantinople, a huge canvas seven metres high held by the Musée des Augustins, the executions and the courts of Moroccan palaces, the harem interiors. He then painted the great decorations of the Sorbonne and of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris, whose sketches are kept at the Petit Palais, and became one of the most sought-after portraitists of his time. Several paintings show nude bodies: they carry the keyword « Nude ». The photographs are those of museums that place their images in the public domain (Paris Musées, New York, Washington) or, for museums whose photographs are not free, another freely reusable photograph, whose author and licence are given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
