Works by Jean-Victor Bertin (1767-1842), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. A pupil of Pierre-Henri de Valenciennes, Bertin is presented by the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille as one of the masters of historical landscape inspired by Italy and, with Michallon, one of Corot's teachers. These are oil landscapes on canvas: the Italian countryside, sites of Greece, mythological forests, entrances to the park at Saint-Cloud. Only works that the museums give to Bertin without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: those of museums that place their images in the public domain (Washington, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Getty) or, for Tokyo, Indianapolis and Lille, a public-domain photograph from Wikimedia Commons, whose origin is given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
