Johan Barthold Jongkind (1819-1891) was a Dutch painter who lived and worked largely in France, and a forerunner of Impressionism. He is best known for his harbours of Normandy and Holland, his moonlit canals and his views of the Seine in Paris. Claude Monet said that he owed to him the final education of his eye.
