Works by Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein (1751-1829), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born in Haina, in Hesse, and a member of the great Tischbein family of painters, he lived in Rome and Naples, where in 1787 he painted his most famous portrait, Goethe in the Roman Campagna, before becoming director of the painting academy in Naples and then court painter to the Duke of Oldenburg, in Eutin. Only works that the museums attribute to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: public-domain photographs, CC0 files from the Metropolitan Museum or photographs under a free licence from Wikimedia Commons, whose origin is given on the page of the work. Drawings, watercolors and studies are not shown. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
