Works by Johann Zoffany (1733-1810), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Born near Frankfurt, trained in Rome and settled in London around 1760, he became the painter of the conversation piece: families shown at home, at table, playing cards or in their park, and David Garrick's actors in their roles. He also worked for the courts of Florence and Vienna, and painted the death of Captain Cook around 1798. Only works that the museums give to Zoffany without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: files released by museums under open access (Metropolitan Museum, Cleveland) or public-domain reproductions from Wikimedia Commons, whose origin is given on the page of each work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
