Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911) was a Lithuanian painter and composer, a figure of Symbolism. He studied music in Warsaw and then in Leipzig, and turned to painting in 1904. He is best known for his cycles in tempera and pastel, whose titles and construction borrow from music, such as the sonatas of the stars, the sea and the pyramids, The Creation of the World and The Zodiac.
