Works by Paul Delaroche (1797-1856), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. A pupil of Gros and a member of the Institut at thirty-five, he was the most famous history painter of his day: like a stage director, he showed the moment just before or just after the drama, in the histories of France and England. Several of his compositions exist in more than one version by his own hand, in different sizes, held by different museums. Only works that the museums give to him without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: those of museums that place their images in the public domain (Cleveland, New Haven) or another free photograph, whose origin is given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
