Works by Philibert-Léon Couturier (1823-1901), in the public domain, each linked to its record: that of the museum that holds it, or its entry on POP, the French Ministry of Culture's portal, when the museum (Chalon-sur-Saône, Arbois, Mâcon) has no record for each work on its own website. A pupil of Picot, Couturier was above all the painter of farmyard animals, whom Théophile Gautier called "the king of the henhouses"; he also illustrated fables by La Fontaine, such as The Council Held by the Rats, and painted peasant and military scenes. Only works that the museums attribute to Couturier without reservation, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included: the origin of each photograph is given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
