Philipp Peter Roos (1657-1706), called Rosa da Tivoli, was a German painter born in Frankfurt who settled in Rome and then in Tivoli. He is best known for his pastoral scenes: shepherds, goats, sheep and dogs in Italian landscapes dotted with ruins. He is one of the great specialists in animal painting of the late seventeenth century.
