Works by Samuel Howitt (1756-1822), in the public domain, each linked to its record at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven (Paul Mellon Collection), which has published them online. Here are his animals, drawn from life or from imagination (the gray wolf, lynxes, hyenas, the llama, the zebra, the tiger and the leopard), his illustrations of fables, his fox, stag, otter and hare hunts, his scenes of wildfowl and partridge shooting, his drawings for Captain Thomas Williamson's "Oriental Field Sports" (1805-1807), his inns and country landscapes. The hand-colored prints (aquatints of 1796, etchings published by Edward Orme in 1812) are shown as the printed image, without the frame or the caption. Only works that the museum gives to Howitt without reservation, in color, and of which a freely reusable photograph exists, are included. The titles are those of the museum, with their translation.
