Works by Vasily Vereshchagin (in Russian Василий Верещагин, 1842-1904), in the public domain: paintings of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and of the conquest of Turkestan, scenes and landscapes of Central Asia, India and the Himalayas, canvases from the series 'Napoleon I in Russia' and church interiors of the Russian North, held by the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the State Historical Museum, the Finnish National Gallery and the Slovak National Gallery, each linked to the museum's website. Only finished works that the museum attributes to Vereshchagin himself are included, without sketches. Several paintings show the death and violence of war, which the painter meant to denounce. The Russian museums do not release their photographs: the images of their works come from Wikimedia Commons (faithful reproductions of flat works in the public domain, or photographs under a free licence with the photographer named). The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
