Works by Wilhelm von Kaulbach (1805-1874), in the public domain, each linked to its record in the museum that holds it. Court painter to King Ludwig I of Bavaria and later director of the Munich Academy, Kaulbach owed his fame to his vast history paintings: The Battle of the Huns, in which the souls of the dead carry on the fight in the sky, The Battle of Salamis, The Destruction of Jerusalem. His great murals in the Neues Museum in Berlin were destroyed in 1945; shown here are the paintings and painted sketches kept in museums, among them those for the frescoes that once decorated the facade of the Neue Pinakothek in Munich. His drawings are not included on this page. The photograph comes from the museum itself or from another free source, given on the page of the work. The titles are those of the museums, with their translation.
