Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907) fue un pintor rumano, considerado uno de los fundadores de la pintura moderna en Rumanía. Tras pintar iconos en monasterios, se formó en París y trabajó en Barbizon, cuya luz y cuyos paisajes lo marcaron. Es conocido principalmente por sus escenas de la vida campesina, sus carros de bueyes, sus retratos de jóvenes campesinas y sus cuadros de la guerra de independencia de 1877, que siguió junto al ejército. Murió en Câmpina.
